OK, I have to admit… I’m a terrible singer.
I’m good at other things, but not that.
And so I want to apologize for spontaneously going into song in this week’s new content video I made for you (it wasn’t planned).
Despite the singing though, I included some pretty useful strategies I use when things don’t go according to plan:
Listen, if life and business were all filled with unicorns and rainbows, we’d all be bored after a while (I think).
Course correction is what keeps things interesting in business and in life.
Like you, every once in a while, I experience things that don’t pan out like I thought they would, even with the best-laid plans and years of expertise.
I’d love to say I’m always in my “spiritual place” about it at first, but truth be told, I get disappointed and frustrated like the next guy.
At first.
But then, I remember the lessons I’ve gathered over these many years of experiencing frustrating outcomes and I use these 4 strategies to turn any “failure” into something positive that ultimately makes me very happy.
And successful.
I hope that it’s somehow timely for you and that you can use some of these best practices.

Awesome, Fabienne! Funny thing, I just had “one of those days” yesterday, and I used the same phrase, about life not being all unicorns and rainbows…Lol! As for the Course Correction, I’m actually writing a book about this, and looked at the situation as an opportunity to go through the steps and see how effective they were in the actual midst of things! There’s six keys, but to sum it up, it speaks to how The Power is in our response; not the challenge! Thank you so much for sharing, have an amazing day:-)!
Congrats on your book! So glad this spoke to you today. :) xo
Thank you, Fabienne. May you continue to rise and let your Light shine:-)!
In school you’re given a lesson and then a test. “In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson” Tom Bodet. I love this quote because it reminds me that everything we go through in life is to teach us how to be stronger and WISER people.
Love it!! Thank you for sharing, Blaine.
This is a form I give to people when they are struggling with life’s dead in’s, curves, u turn’s, pit stops or tragedy’s. It is not all inclusive but it is a good starting point.
10 Ways to cope with an out of balance life:
Let’s face it, life can be stressful. Whether it’s a new job, the loss of a job, a lot of overtime at work or stress from within your family, you may want to consider the following:
1. Take an honest look at yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses, skills? How have they been an influence in the past? BE HONEST!!
2. Step up your self-care. Major changes are physically and emotionally taxing. You need self-care
now more than ever.
3. Engage your curiosity. What went wrong, or right? What could you have done better? What worked really well?
4. Focus on what you want and less on what you don’t want. Keep your eye on the prize.
5. Find positive support. Since your transition affects your family as well, it may be better to seek the
outside support of friends or professionals.*
6. Purposely, and quickly, contact people to be accountable to. DO IT even if it’s not comfortable. (You should have this in your life anyway)*
7. Reassure (or avoid) those who are threatened by, or jealous of, any change in your life.
8. Create your own celebration. A ceremony or ritual can help with transitions.
9. Let go of how things were “supposed to be” and accept “how things are.” Concentrate
on what is good about your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10. Keep things in perspective. Or try on a new perspective. Don’t get stuck. Remember, the
only constant is change.
This is obviously not an exhaustive list, but it is meant to be a starting point for your accountability group or your getaway to celebrate. I want to point out #9. It is very important that you learn to “let
go” of how you thought your life was going to turn out, or how it was supposed to be. Unfortunately, in spite of all of your planning, sometimes life happens. It can be frustrating to continue to try and make something work that is just not meant to be. Remember keep your eyes on the big picture
Yes, this was my favorite: #9 “Let go of how things were “supposed to be”. So important. Thanks for sharing this here, Blaine!
This is timely! Having just done some major course correcting and beating myself up for “wasting time”, I’m re-framing it to “learning lessons”. Thanks for the good reminder. P.S. I can’t sing either, but I also try!
Glad I’m not the only one who can’t sing, Leslie! ;) So good to hear that this was timely for you… xo
This is just what I needed today! I also love what I’ve heard you say, on other occasions, about the breakdown before the breakthrough. And, there’s another quote I love that goes something like, “Just when you’re about to give up, you’re really just inches away from your goal.” Love you, Fabienne <3
Love you!! Sending you big hugs. xo
Thank you for the reminder that course correction is NORMAL and to stop beating myself up for things that didn’t go the way I planned. I have been dealing with disappointment over the past 2 months, and I am working hard to reshift my focus on what I can learn for the future. See you in a couple of weeks! xoxo
Can’t wait to see you soon, Jill. We’ll work through this together. xo
Thanks Fabienne. Course Correction has become my new favorite phrase since joining your business school. I stopped feeling like I was a failing every time I need to “just course correct” Thank you for all that you share!
It warms my heart to hear that. Thank you, Debby. :)
I’m so grateful that we discussed this with you in one of our meetings… It makes all those perceived mistakes become just speed bumps in the road… but when we don’t realize those are “normal” parts of business growth and change we tend to beet ourselves up for it. Thank you for always taking us through your “before” XO
Thank you, Kelly :) xoxo
Thank you Fabienne for reminding all always to look for the gifts in every situation. Have faith in divine abundance means we are never off course. XO
