Today, we are deepening a subject we touched recently: being too flexible with your clients and giving away your time. Giving your time freely (perhaps like you used to when you started your business) is harming your business and creating resentment.
This happens to the best of us.
You become frustrated, overwhelmed and unable to grow your business any further. It’s almost like you’re chained to this setup that you have with people, where they now expect you to give away your time.
Here’s what I’ve learned: when you’re constantly putting out fires, giving too much time to each of your clients, sacrificing your personal time, you cannot scale your business.
Scaling your business doesn’t come from being in a Reactive mode. It comes from being in a Proactive mode.
Being available to everybody just because they ask is not helping you, nor does it bring you any closer to having a self-managing business, which is what you want (everything we get you to do in The Leveraged Business Program).
A self-managing business thrives largely without your day-to-day input, is able to run smoothly with reliable systems and a rockstar team – and gives you your life back.
You deserve to have a high quality of life. You’ve gotten your business this far. But being the person who gives away their time is not going to get you where you want to go.
Most people also lose time by spending way too much of it focusing on the immediate, urgent tasks that provide only the very short-term, low-impact results.
I really want you to hear this: being in that urgency stage of just responding to everything that shows up, whether it’s by email, telephone, social media requests from team, clients, texts…all of that translates to very short term, low yield, low impact results.
This is usually the result of setting up unspoken agreements with people that allows them to hijack our time. I don’t want that for you and we can change this together, even if you’ve been doing it for a long time.
What we want instead is to have you use your time strategically going forward, so you can scale your business.
Stop being so flexible with your clients and ask yourself the following questions:
=> How, specifically, am I giving my time away or being too flexible with clients, my team, my family, everyone?
=> Which of the things do you wish to stop doing, even if you don’t know how you would do it?
Once you have made this list and change your agreements or do things drastically differently, things will start to change for you. You will have your time back and you will be able to be more strategic and scale your business without working harder or longer hours.
