To scale, you need team players

I talked to a client today and I looked her in the eye and said, point blank, “If you want to grow your business exponentially, you need team players and more than anything else, to get out of the day-to-day details.”

She looked at me and said, “Really? Is exponential growth truly about doing less?”

Without hesitation, I said, “Yes. That’s the counterintuitive piece, and it’s the reason we can get so many of our members to a million with their life back. It’s all about freeing you from the tasks that bog you down, so you can scale, and feel free again. Just follow our recipe and make the people supporting your business team players.” 

The shift is simple (but not always easy to make on your own):

You must begin to see yourself as not just the founder of your business, but the leader of a process-driven company full of team players, not a doer of tasks.

While some resistance usually comes up for the entrepreneur used to doing everything their way or on their own, this is the new mindset that transforms the businesses of our members to multiple six figures and eventually to seven figures, with lots of unplugged weeks of vacation each year.

A process-driven company is one that can:

  • Run without you being involved in every single aspect
  • Allow you to serve many more people
  • Multiply your income exponentially
  • Set you free 

The key here is that your business becomes centered around a PROCESS, not around a PERSON. A process can be scaled, a person cannot (whether that person is you or a key member who acts like an outlier and “wings it”).

In creating a process-driven company that can easily be scaled, keep the following in mind:

If you want to grow exponentially, everyone must follow the process and systems that will help you scale. At this stage of business, there is no room for rebels or outliers, even when they are really good.

I’m not sure if you know the term ‘outlier’? An outlier is ‘a person or a thing that differs from all the other members of that particular group or set.’ 

I’ve seen many business owners whose growth is thwarted because an outlier (often a very talented person), refuses to “fall in line” with new processes.

Perhaps you have experienced (at some point) a team member who’s been with you for some time, who digs their heels in about new systems or changes. But what you really need is team players.

I know that this can sound extreme, but…

In a business that is looking to scale and to run without your daily involvement, there is no longer room in your organization for outliers who want to do things their own way. You need team players.


Outliers will become the bane of your existence in business because they will not help you create a process-driven business. Team players will get you where you need to be.

Ultimately, you need a team that is willing to support you by following the processes in your business, and even helping to document them.

Any person on the team that isn’t willing to do this means you’re rowing in the wrong direction.
