I want to give you a hack today about how to accelerate your results in your business, and it’s an idea that I got from the hockey player from Canada named Wayne Gretzky.
I’m not into hockey or anything, but when I first heard the following concept about 10 years ago, it really shifted how I make decisions in my business and in my life.
It’s the idea that you don’t make decisions from where you are now, but where you want to be. He famously said something along the lines of, “I don’t skate to where the puck is or has been, I skate to where it is going to be.” Watch now to see what I mean:
I see a lot of people who are stuck at a plateau in their business or in their income, and they’re wondering why they’re not moving fast enough.
It’s clear to me that it’s because they’re making decisions based on their current marketing, their current income, their current business model, their current platform.
I want to inspire you today to think about this instead:
Where do you want to be?
What is your big vision for your business?
What kind of team do you want supporting you?
What kind of business model do you want to have?
What kind of brand do you want to have?
What kind of revenues do you want to be making?
Now, in your mind’s eye, put yourself there and imagine that you are already there.
Whatever it is that you’re waiting to have now, just pretend that you have it now, and make your decisions from that vantage point rather than the one you’re in now.
Let me give you an example.
Sometimes people say to me:
“Well, I want to have a team member but I can’t afford that team member.”
“I’m not ready for that team member.”
“I’m not sure about changing my business model because maybe my clients aren’t ready yet.”
If you were already where you want to be, would you make that decision?
It’s really just a mindset shift of seeing yourself already there and digging deep, even if you think you can’t afford that, even if you think the clients will leave if you raise your rates or change your business model.
I invite you to start making decisions from where you WANT to be, rather than where you are NOW.
If you’re looking for mentorship or a strategic alliance, don’t wait for a perfect time to do it, start doing it now.
This is based on the idea that successful people make decisions from where they want to be while unsuccessful people make decisions from where they are now.
Something for you to think about today to help you get to your next big level without a lot of delay.
Lots of love. xo
