When I first started my business, a friend of mine (whom I love dearly and we’re still friends now) said to me…
“I think you’re making a massive mistake. I would not leave corporate, your secure paycheck, to open up my own thing if I were you.”
I felt hurt, confused and a bit defeated. The last thing I needed was for her to project her own fears about money onto me.
(I explain the whole thing in today’s new video.)
I remember saying to her, “While I appreciate your concern, and I love having you as a friend, I can’t be exposed to negativity right now. I desperately need to stay mentally strong and to focus on making money and growing my business. This is kind of a life-or-death situation for me right now, because I’m unwilling to go back to corporate.”
And so, I put a pause button on our regular conversations just for a few months so I could get things off the ground in a vortex of positivity.
Here’s how I did it. Watch this:
Maybe you know just what I mean about having people in your life who, while being well-meaning, don’t sound super supportive.
It’s really easy to get caught up in that environment focused on safety above all…
…and then to end up getting underwhelming results you don’t really want.
You see, if you’re someone who really wants to grow your business or project or career, and if you’re surrounded by people who aren’t growing, they will likely keep you down.
They don’t consciously mean to…it’s just human nature.
Every time you will try to go for something bigger and more risky, others not already there will likely talk you out of it.
For example, if you want to reach new goals in your business or fitness, and you surround yourself with people struggling with their own business or fitness, they will likely keep you down unknowingly.
On a subconscious level, they don’t really want you to change.
And this definitely presents a problem, especially if you are committed to changing your results.
The solution that creates wonders:
In any situation in your life where you want to get to the next level or achieve new results, surround yourself with other people who are (what we at Boldheart call) Advancing People.
These are people who will believe in you and support you, because they’re advancing in the same direction as you.
These are the people who will have advice and best practices to share with you.
When you spend a lot of time with them, you create miraculous new results.
So, this is my invitation to put a pause button on the Negative Nellies in your life, as well as the people who aren’t supportive of your new goals.
It doesn’t mean that you ditch your friends and family completely, but maybe spend a little less time with them.
At the same time, you want to add new people to the mix during times of significant growth, so you can begin to crowd out the negative sounds.
This is about strengthening your mindset.
You need your internal talk be strong, positive and enthusiastic, but you also need that reflected back to you by the people you surround yourself with.
Because pushing a boulder up the hill can be really, really difficult on your own, and it can be even more difficult if you are not surrounded by the kind of people who will help you grow.
So start surrounding yourself with Advancing People who have big dreams and goals.
It’s much, much easier when you’re in a community of other people who are enthusiastically doing the same thing as you. Watch this mini-documentary I made this year about this.
When people join our program, for example, they expect to get first-class business coaching and strategy, along with the mindset teachings that I offer.
BUT, what they often underestimate is the power of this community of Advancing People all growing their businesses too, that comes with working with us. Hundreds of Advancing People who champion you and love you to success.
It’s really quite miraculous.
So if you know that you need to start adding some positive, like-minded, advancing entrepreneurs to your life, you can start by looking here.
The support you get is indescribable. Just watch our documentary to see it for yourself.
