How to Delegate Better

What would happen to your business if you were able to delegate more and much much better?

There is certainly a part of you that knows deep inside that all the overwhelm is getting in the way of you focusing on the important things that would grow your business. If so, watch this:

You (generally) know what you need to do to grow, but there isn’t enough time because you’re constantly putting out fires or doing tedious things you innately know someone else could do for you.

Perhaps you agree that you’ve become the bottleneck in your business.

You probably know what I mean by bottleneck, meaning, where everything has to be approved by you or looked at by you before it can be put into place. Not enough delegating to your team.

What does that create?

Well, you end up with an ever growing to-do list of things you shouldn’t be working on, and no more time for you, because you then try to catch up on the important tasks on evenings and weekends.

You’ve tried delegating much, much more than you are now, and it hasn’t worked so well. You were disappointed (frustrated?) that you didn’t get what you wanted (didn’t they GET what you meant??) and you took back the work, resenting them along the way.

And because of it, you’re still stuck thinking you might as well do it yourself or that you’re a bad manager.

It’s not that you are a bad manager, it’s that you are ‘drive-by delegating’.

And here’s what I mean.

Imagine driving in your car with your window rolled down and taking, let’s say, a hot potato and throwing it out the window at your team as you speed on by, saying,

“Can you please do this for me? I need it ASAP!” And then you’re gone.

The team member who has received your “delegation”, your hot potato, has no idea what to do with it.

=> They want to please you and do a good job
=> They don’t know what it’s supposed to look like
=> They don’t have enough information and they’re scared to mess up
=> They don’t know what ASAP actually means
=> They have other things on their plate, and not sure how to prioritize this new “hot potato”
=> They don’t want to ask you for more details, for fear of sounding stupid or bothering you
=> They wish they had more guidance from you
=> They figure they’ll try it on their own and see what happens, praying you’ll like it.

And what usually happens is this staff or team member who wants to please you goes down into a rabbit hole with the project, and three weeks later, presents you with what they thought you wanted, and you say to yourself,

“Seriously?? Three weeks later, and it’s not even done the way I wanted it! Why did I even bother? Why am I paying somebody else to do this when it would’ve been done better, faster and cheaper, if I had done it myself?”

That’s when you take the work back, fire the team member, and then start all over again with the next person, to eventually experience the same results.

Because, let’s be honest, the only common denominator in this scenario is the business owner, and more of the same will always create more of the same, no matter who you delegate to.

What needs to shift? LEVERAGE. This time, leveraging your delegation.

You see, part of truly leveraging your team (whether you have a part time Virtual Assistant or a staff of full time people) is to use a proven process for communicating and then getting back the work back the way you wanted it, or even better than you thought it would be (we teach this in our signature program and it is a massive game changer).

You then get back your project:

=> According to your specifications
=> On time or ahead of time
=> Even better than you thought it would be

Just learning how to do this shifts everything for the better. You can stop working evenings and weekends, you can work on more important things and focus on increasing your earnings dramatically because you’re no longer in the weeds.

But most entrepreneurs have never been taught how to delegate strategically, communicate what they want, be realistic about deadlines and coach their team members along the way so that they get what they want.

When you do, however, it allows you to let go of micromanaging your team to then use your time to focus on exponential growth activities that double your business in a year, just like our members do.

Is this something that you would benefit from? Could you use your time back to grow your business instead of doing every little thing yourself or continually being frustrated by what your current team is giving you?
