People are always asking me, “Fabienne, how do you come up with new content each and every week for your weekly ezine?” Sometimes I come up with content several times per week, and I don’t recycle content very often.
It used to be that whenever I needed to write an article or turn on the camera to record a video, I would just stare at a blank screen. It was discouraging and frustrating! Can you relate?
Then, I started using a process that has really worked for me, and I’ve been using this process for a long time.
1. Who Do I Want to Attract?
When you’re being haphazard about your content, it’s very easy to attract all sorts of different types of people and not necessarily the people that you want to attract.
Perhaps you’re at a place in your business, like I was not too long ago, where I started saying, “Okay, I’m attracting a lot of this type of client, but I would like to switch my business to also attract this type of client.”
2. What Are They Struggling With?
If you’re in a place in your business where you’re very clear on the type of client that you want to attract, you start to pay more attention. It becomes a matter of identifying what it is that your ideal client needs most, right now.
What topics would appeal to them? What questions do they ask you? What are they struggling with right now? Really think about what it is that they’re questioning or having a hard time with.
When I’m on the phone with a client and he or she expresses a concern or tells me about a particular issue they are having, I jot it down on a post-it note, stick it to my wall and then continue on with my teaching. Then I have a topic to attract more of these ideal clients. Before long, I have a collection of great topics for future articles that will solve my prospects’ problems and attract more ideal clients to my business.
Another way that I’ve come up with content for many, many years is asking myself, “What am I going through?” I identify issues that I’m going through because very often our ideal clients are a lot like us. You are the type of client that you want to attract. Other people around you are similar to you. So what is it that you’re going through that would benefit other people who resemble who you are?
3. Become The Problem Solver
How can you position yourself as a problem solver? A problem solver is somebody who provides solutions, right? People don’t buy processes. You may think they buy a process, or they buy you, but really first and foremost, they buy the solutions that you provide. So you must position yourself as a problem solver if you want to attract a lot of clients.
4. Create an Editorial Calendar
Once you’ve identified the clients you’d like to attract, you have a list of questions to answer, and you’ve positioned yourself as the problem solver, it’s time to create an editorial calendar.
An editorial schedule is where you have a very specific list of topics that you will plug into your calendar so that you never have to stare at a blank page again.
Think about it, 12 or 13 questions create an entire three months’ worth of editorial content. Put it together in an editorial schedule and you’ve got a specific list of topics you can plug right into your calendar. How cool is that?
Your Assignment
Take the following 4 easy steps to create editorial content that will attract your ideal clients every time:
- Think about what type of clients you want to attract, right now. If you’re not attracting the type of clients you want, consider changing your content.
- Make a list of the topics that would appeal to them. What are they having a hard time with right now?
- How can you position yourself as the problem solver? You want to provide solutions. Believe it or not, people don’t buy processes, they buy solutions!
- Map it out on your calendar.
There you have it—your process for creating content that solves your ideal client’s problems, while attracting those same people to your business. Now, get writing…and good luck!

Thank you for a great tip. Many entrepreneurs are being so much involved into the process that they have rarely time to step back and look into the whole picture. This post gave me that opportunity.
You’re very welcome Greg! Thanks for your comment :)
