When should you start thinking about hiring staff to support your business growth?
I believe this is an important question, so let’s dive in! This video will help:
I recently heard from a woman at 6-figures asking whether she should wait to hire the person she needs or wait until her business cash flow is strong and her business growth is more stable.
First, let’s acknowledge that there comes a point in every woman’s 6-figure business journey where she feels overwhelmed, including you.
You’ve got plenty of clients, money is coming in, but you know that you can’t grow because there’s no more time and no more of you to go around. You’re stuck, and crushed by your to-do list.
A year from now, things will look exactly the same, if not worse.
This is where the entrepreneurial trap comes in – the desire to hire people, but the uncertainty about whether it’s the right move when profits are still limited.
What do you do? Follow the same steps our members (the ones who got to a million a year with us) have done:
Be strategic and hire for where you want to be in three to five years, not where you are now.
I understand that this is not what your accountant will necessarily tell you and it will require a leap of faith.
But here’s what I’ve learned (doing it myself and also teaching thousands of women to do it):
The team/support that got you to where you are now is not always able to take you to where you want to be (multiple 6-figures, even 100K months).
To scale, you will likely need more and/or better help.
I understand that this requires an extra investment and it may feel outside of your comfort zone. This is a normal conversation in our mastermind.
The truth is, you will need to stretch yourself to grow. Here are some options we use to hire world class help without feeling the stretch:
- Consider hiring on a part-time or fractional basis to begin with, but make the decision to hire someone now, not later.
- Sell more products and services to pay for them until they can pay for themselves (usually three to four months).
- Within the first three months, as they get acclimated and ramped up, strategize with them how they can bring in money too, while you are doing the same.
You can afford it, even if it feels scary at first. Whether you’re looking to bring on a team member or mentor, it’s just a question of believing in yourself that you can actually bring in the money to pay for this person and then doing it.
The idea is to stretch outside of your comfort zone and take decisive action.
I have found that taking this kind of calculated risk pays off and takes your business to new heights.
