Today I have a mindset shift for you that will help you leverage your business to grow exponentially while putting in less effort, and it’s all about the Pareto principle. (You may know it as the 80/20 rule.)
The Pareto principle states that 80% of consequences, or results, come from 20% of causes, or actions.
So when it comes to your time, that means that 80% of your effort in how you use your time in your business is responsible for 20% of your results. Conversely, 20% of your time and effort are creating 80% of your results.
Pretty mind-blowing, when you really think about it. I know when I first learned about the 80/20 rule, I wasn’t necessarily focused on business…I just started seeing it everywhere in my life.
For example, most people only use about 20% of their personal items 80% of the time. I know that when I pack to go on a trip, I always bring the same things, because they work…but I definitely noticed it in business too.
And this is where my mind was blown: I realized that 20% of my marketing activities seemed to bring in about 80% of total clients.
“Wait a minute,” I thought. “Am I really using all of this time working, and the majority of my time is creating very little results, but there are a few things – the 20% – that are creating the biggest results?!”
That’s when I started paying attention to how I used my time in all areas of my business, and here was the real breakthrough:
Using your time effectively is not just about how much time you have. It’s the way you use your time. This is what dictates how your business grows.
So to really bring it home, 20% of your activities are what really drive the business forward significantly. (In our signature program at Boldheart, I teach our members to leverage their time strategically to scale their business exponentially by focusing on Exponential Growth Activities.)
Conversely, 80% of your activities do not have the same results, impact or value. They are a waste of time, comparatively speaking.
So I started thinking…
“What if I started saying NO to the things that are taking up 80% of my time but producing very few results, and instead, what if I did more of the Exponential Growth Activities on the 20% list?”
When I applied this strategy to the business, it produced a true compound effect. I started working more strategically by doing LESS, but BETTER. This is what initially brought me to a 7-figure business and eventually to multiple seven-figure revenues, year after year, for 14 years.
Most importantly, this is what I teach to our members and it’s the reason why they get to 10K, then 20K, 50K, 75K, and eventually 100K a month or more. By doing less, better.
